Guatemala already has a master mobility plan and a clear timeline. The obstacle is no longer technical: it is political and institutional. The República Summit Infrastructure 2026 exists to unlock implementation. Its goal is to align the responsible institutions and activate the political will necessary to turn the plan into action.
Congestion is already a structural problem. During rush hour, speeds drop to 9–12 mph, and 6-mile trips take over 25 minutes.
Guatemala has 6.3 million registered vehicles, putting pressure on infrastructure that has not grown at the same pace.
The cost is high and cumulative: 3–5 hours lost daily in traffic, up to 65 days per year, and an estimated impact of Q23 billion annually on productivity.
Mobility is no longer just a transportation issue. Today, it is a matter of urban economics, mental health, regional competitiveness, and metropolitan governance.
